Shane Boren, AIA, LEED AP

Shane is a licensed Architect who serves as both a Senior Project Manager and Senior Healthcare Planner for Childers Architect, primarily supporting our Healthcare sector.

His passion is supporting clients in improving their healthcare systems and the environments where care is delivered. He focuses on helping clients define their vision and translate goals and objectives through a collaborative design process — facilitating visioning sessions and staff/end-user discussions to identify priorities and future growth needs, and determining how those translate into spatial requirements.

His role in implementing that vision includes space program development, conceptual site planning, departmental adjacency studies, and initial floor plan development. His expertise includes analyzing departmental operations and helping clients optimize those operations through informed change based on operational goals. He also assists in developing project schedules and budgets that clients use as the foundation for strategic planning.

Shane and the design teams he leads bring extensive healthcare planning expertise to each project, encouraging clients to consider research that drives stronger project outcomes through thoughtful design.

A recent example of his work includes a metrics-based analysis of a healthcare system’s previous clinic layouts to evaluate and compare performance. The findings revealed misalignment with new operational goals, leading to the development of a new “pod” concept that significantly reduced staff walking distances, improved collaboration through open team areas, and provided direct visibility to exam rooms — all key priorities of the system.

Much of Shane’s work involves partnering with Tribal Health Systems — each with its own operational complexities and distinct cultural influences. These cultural components shape not only aesthetics but also functional design requirements. The diversity and depth of this work are a constant source of inspiration and purpose for him.

Shane was an Arthur N. Tuttle Fellowship recipient and is a contributing author to Anthropology of Architecture: Designing for Culture in Tribal Communities (Journal of Healthcare, Science and the Humanities, 2012).

He holds an undergraduate degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and a Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University.
