Ruel Mendoza
Director of Design | Senior AssociateBiography
Ruel has broad experience across all phases of the design process, including conceptual design, master planning, schematic design through design development, interior design, and the transition into construction documents. He has contributed to a wide range of healthcare projects, including university teaching hospitals, regional medical centers, outpatient facilities, cancer centers, and medical office buildings. He leads design efforts to establish the architectural vision for each project and guide its execution from concept through documentation.
From an early age, Ruel discovered a passion for drawing — creating everything from still life illustrations to original comic book superheroes. This talent led him to pursue a master’s degree in architecture at Texas Tech University, where he explored the relationship between form, space, and human experience. Sketching remains a core element of his design process today, helping him communicate and shape the client’s vision. At Childers Architect, Ruel is committed to becoming a “whole architect,” involved in every stage of the design journey from concept to construction administration.
Outside of work, Ruel jokes that he runs a rideshare service for his high school kids, maintains an impressive collection of streaming services for family and friends, and is a devoted Marvel Cinematic Universe fan. If granted three wishes, his second would be to master a musical instrument—just in time to join a flash mob performing John Williams’ Imperial March or songs by Elio.
