Ruel Mendoza

Director of Design | Senior Associate

Ruel has 18 years of experience in all phases of the design process including conceptual design, master planning, schematic design through design development, interior design, and the interface of design with construction documents. He has participated in the design of a variety of healthcare facilities including university teaching hospitals, regional medical centers, outpatient centers, cancer centers and medical office buildings. He leads the design effort to explore and develop an appropriate architectural image for each individual project and guide its execution from design through construction documents.

At an early age, Ruel found his passion in drawing. He excelled in using different mediums to draw still life of objects to creating his own comic book superheroes. Equipped with this talent, he attended Texas Tech University to pursue a master’s degree in architecture. He learned to explore the relationships between form, space, and people who experienced it. He expressed his ideas through layers of tracing paper filled with sketches that begins to define the overall design concept of the project. Today, he uses his drawing talent as part of the design process to communicate the client’s vision for the project. At Childers Architect, he is dedicated to becoming the ‘whole’ architect and be involved in the entire design process from concept design to construction administration.

Outside of work, Ruel runs a rideshare service for his high school kids, maintains numerous streaming services for family and friends, and is an avid MCU fan. If Ruel finds a genie in a bottle, his second wish would be to be able to play a musical instrument to play John Williams Imperial March song, be part of a musical flash mob, and play Elio’s songs.
